Client Infrastructure Solutions
Issue - Manufacturing
A mid-sized manufacturing company currently supports their remote employees with access to marketing material through a traditional IPSEC Client VPN which takes time to browse network shares due to bandwidth constraints. The company asked DSN Group to provide a cost effective, secure way to access their network.
Solution
DSN Group installed two small Citrix farm servers using Web Interface and Citrix Secure Gateway. This allowed the remote employees to access email and documents remotely, while giving them the speed and flexibility of printing locally all the while providing a secure connection to their network.
Issue – Service
A large services company needs to access the same documentation (10-30 Meg Excel Files with embedded images) on the network. A previous systems integrator has set up and configured DFS within their Directory Services environment. While this did replicate their documentation, customers would modify documents and files, but changes were overwritten by users at another site. The customer asked DSN Group to provide a solution to replicate their data, but also provide file locking capabilities across the DFS namespace.
Solution
DSN Group reviewed the DFS namespace configuration and found the configuration to be sufficient, but bandwidth and file locking were issues. DSN installed a 3rd party replication solution to work on top of the DFS Namespace. This replication solution would only replicate the delta changes of each file and send across the WAN. Furthermore, this software also had remote file locking capability, so when a user at the main site had a document open, a user accessing the same document at the remote site would receive a notice that the document was only being opened in ‘read-only’ due to a user having the document open. |
